DREAMS

Figurative contemporary  painting oil on canvas

ARTWORKS

In this figurative work, Frédérique Torres explores a territory in which the human figure becomes a point of convergence between consciousness and imagination. The female face emerges from a dense, shifting pictorial space, resembling a mental matter in constant transformation. The composition suggests less a portrait than an inner state, suspended between wakefulness and dream.
The slightly averted gaze establishes a silent distance from the viewer. Rather than seeking direct confrontation, the figure invites introspective reading, as if absorbed within an autonomous inner world. The background, rich in color, organic forms, and chromatic vibrations, evokes an oneiric landscape where memories, emotions, and diffuse sensations overlap.
The palette, both warm and contrasted, fully contributes to this dreamlike dimension. The colors do not describe a real space but translate flows of thought and fragments of memory, giving the work a floating sense of temporality. The boundary between the body and its environment dissolves, revealing a figure traversed by what surrounds it rather than clearly separated from the world.
Through DREAMS, the artist questions contemporary identity as an unstable space, in constant recomposition. The female figure is neither fully asserted nor dissolved; it exists in a state of transition, characteristic of contemporary figurative painting in which the visible becomes the support for an emotional and symbolic experience. The work thus aligns with a practice that privileges inner resonance and sensory experience, inviting the viewer to project their own memory of dreams.
