PERSISTENCE
Figurative contemporary painting, oil on canvas and gold leaf
60 X 80 CM
This work creates a tension between the figure of a geisha, custodian of an ancestral heritage, and a pictorial environment saturated with contemporary symbols. The lowered face, treated with restraint, evokes discipline and the transmission of a codified art, while the teeming setting recalls the density of the modern urban landscape.
The figure seems to belong to a time of slowness and ritual, in contrast to the vibrant background, marked by the visual overabundance of the present. The repeated motifs act as echoes of a city gradually reclaiming its traditions.
The contrast between stability and movement reflects a silent tension: that of a culture that persists while being marginalized. Thus, Persistances questions the fragile place of ancestral heritage in contemporary Japan.
