This work depicts a naked woman from behind, seemingly shedding her artifice in an irreversible process of transformation of her idealized beauty. The fleshy surface appears fragmented, gridded, marked by areas of erasure, suggesting the erosion of time and the vulnerability of the body to the social gaze.
In the background stands a spectral, mourning older figure, acting as an older double of the woman. Her face, frontal and immobile, embodies memory, experience, and a form of silent, tormented lucidity. A mute dialogue unfolds between the two figures: that of the passage of time, of deliverance, but also of the judgment passed upon the female body as it deviates from the norms of desire and visibility. The raven on the older woman's shoulder reinforces the symbolic dimension of the work. It evokes death, consciousness, and a kind of inner messenger, while the tree with its gnarled branches situates the scene within a natural, organic cycle, where transformation appears inevitable.
The dense, dark pictorial space acts as a mental territory where past, present, and future overlap. The woman is not depicted in a spectacular fall, but in a state of stripping away, as if the loss of her attributes of beauty opened onto another form of truth, more internal, more silent. Through this composition, Frédérique Torres explores the condition of the female body confronted with time, the gradual disappearance of its markers of social value, and the coexistence of its multiple states. She offers a reflection on identity, metamorphosis, and how the body becomes the site inscribed with both personal and collective history.
