Peinture contemporaine figurative représentant une figure féminine, huile sur toile

ARTISTIC APPROACH

The artistic approach of Frédérique A. Torres is rooted in contemporary figurative painting, where the human body becomes the site of an inner and sensory experience. Through oil on canvas, the artist explores states of suspended presence, waiting, and withdrawal, in which the female figure exists between interiority and relationship to the world.
The works do not convey a specific narrative, but rather propose open, often silent situations in which time appears slowed. Contained postures, restrained gestures, and direct or averted gazes establish a controlled tension between unease and calm. The body thus becomes a space of emotional projection, traversed by memory, emotion, and perception.
Landscapes and settings—whether pared down or mental—do not function as mere backgrounds; they extend the psychological state of the figures. Sea, wind, darkness, or light contribute to the construction of an inner climate, evoking emotions held in reserve rather than overtly expressed. Painting thus operates as a space of contemplation, inviting the viewer into a slow, introspective experience.
Between affirmed presence and gradual erasure, the work of Frédérique A. Torres questions the ways in which identity is constructed, protected, or withdrawn, within a fragile balance between exposure and silence.
