MATERNITY
Figurative painting, oil on canvas
181 X 99 cm
With Maternity, the artist offers a contemporary reading of the mother–child relationship, conceived as an act of transmission as much as of protection. The female figure, depicted standing and frontally, holds the child against her body in a stable and structuring posture. The maternal body becomes an anchor point, linking the individual to a broader sense of continuity.
The mother’s face, treated with restraint, conveys a calm gravity, far removed from any sentimental idealization. Maternity is approached here as a silent responsibility, inscribed within time. The child, held close to the adult body, appears both protected and already engaged in an inheritance that exceeds them.
The richly ornamented garments occupy a central place in the composition. They envelop the bodies and contribute to a temporary fusion of generations, evoking collective memory, tradition, and cultural transmission. The dense and decorative pictorial material reinforces this symbolic dimension, transforming clothing into a bearer of history and identity.
The verticality of the composition situates the scene within an extended temporality, connecting past, present, and future. Maternity thus forms part of a contemporary figurative painting practice in which the female body becomes a space of memory, lineage, and continuity, intended for galleries, cultural institutions, and art collectors.
