With The Hunt, Frédérique Torres develops a contemporary figurative painting in which the human figure embodies the passage from adolescence to adulthood, a decisive moment in the appropriation of personal power. Crowned with stag antlers, the androgynous figure stands at a point of transition, aware of its emerging strength, suspended between inherited legacy and identity in formation.
The stag antlers—ancestral symbols of power, courage, vitality, and the cycle of life—also refer to protection and the ability to ward off the evil eye. Here, they express a power in the making: non-aggressive, yet asserted with clarity and self-awareness. The youthfulness of the body combined with this symbolic charge evokes the moment when the individual ceases to merely receive an inheritance and begins to take ownership of it.
The androgyny of the figure expands the reading toward a form of strength that transcends traditional gender categories, situating the work within a contemporary reflection on identity and autonomy. The dense and organic pictorial environment functions as both a natural and mental space, evoking at once the gaze of the world and the silent presence of ancestors.
The Hunt thus transforms the notion of pursuit into an inner conquest, celebrating the passage into adulthood and the affirmation of personal power inscribed within the living cycle of the world..
